Education is probably considered to be the most important thing in a person’s life. Getting an education allows people to stay in school and to learn useful things that can be applied later in life. But often times, even when we are receiving a good education, sometimes we forget why we are even in school. But we should really answer this question, “What’s good about going to College?”
You may think it’s silly to be answering this question, but sometimes it’s necessary to answer that type of question. What’s good about going to College and receiving a College education is that it allows young adults to expand and to continue their education in the field that they want to study. For some of us who are undecided on what to major in, it allows them to explore the different career options and find what interests them. What’s also good about going to College is that it gives young adults a glimpse on how different the environment is, compared to being in High School. College prepares young adults as to what it will be like in the real world.
Once you’re in College, you’re no longer a child. You are an adult and you are also responsible for yourself. You are in charge of your own path. College allows young adults to network with other people to find out their own interests, hobbies, and what they are studying in school. I know I was nervous about starting school at Sacramento State because honestly I did not know what to expect. Coming from the Bay Area and moving to Sacramento for school was a bit stressful at first, but then I was used to the environment after the first few weeks. My first impression about Sacramento State ’s campus was that there are a lot of different clubs and organizations that the students can join and the people are very friendly and diverse.
Even though I do not work at the moment I am very glad that I am going to College. Not to offend anyone but, back in my hometown you’re either working a dead end job or you’re going to a Community College with no specific educational path. A lot of young adults in my hometown who are working the dead end jobs do wish that they were still in school. Because of the costs of being in College, most of them have to work in order to make a living. I would rather be broke and going into debt for my education, rather than go into debt because of something else. It was very common that young college students go into debt for their education by taking out several loans and taking several years to pay them off.
College gives young adults the opportunity to take the classes that they need and it also lets them create an ideal schedule that is best fitting for them. I really like how College gives me the freedom to not take classes every single day. College lets me be independent and it also lets me take control of my own education. When dealing with the everyday stressful situations of a College student, it is nice that they offer the counseling and resources so it eases the stress off a bit.
By going to College and later on earning a College degree, it allows young adults to earn a little bit more money than those with only a High School Diploma. Having a College degree puts those at advantage if they want to pursue in a higher paying job. With a High School Diploma, it limits options as to where people can work and it is more likely that their pay will not be as good as someone with a higher degree. I guess through this whole “College talk” it’s important for young adults to take control of their own lives.

This piece needs some personality added to it. I get very little sense of the writer: what does she like/dislike, what does college mean to her, specifically.
ReplyDeleteThis is more essay than column.
It needs a good strong, specific beginning - to be a column. Perhaps something specific about those dead end jobs, or what life is like at a community college.
And AP and capitalization are a problem.
For example, why is high school capitalized? Or college?
I love love love the topic!! I look forward to reading more about this!
